On 9 December, on the International Anti-Corruption Day "Zero Corruption Evening" organized with EUACI support took place in Kyiv. During this event NGO "Anti-Corruption Action Centre" (AntAC) had presented the concept ‘Zero Corruption’ and new large-scale ‘Zero Corruption Conference’ project which is planned to be held in April 2020. Organizers, the AntAC has invited on this event change-makers, representatives of the public sector and international organizations, media. The project was presented by Darya Kaleniuk, Co-founder and CEO of the AntAC, and Hanna Hopko, former Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Dariia Kaleniuk spoke about NGO’s achievements, noting particularly that 4.8 billion UAH was saved for the state budget by the means of monitoring the state’s procurement system and reporting on violators.
Dariia also announced that the International ‘Zero Corruption Conference’ will be held in April 2020: “For us, as a civil society organization, it is a great challenge to organize a conference of such a level. I would like to thank our partners for making the ‘Zero Corruption Conference’ possible, namely, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative, Pact, and others”. Dariia noted that the global aim of NGO is to stop corruption in Ukraine, not to constantly combat it: “Our mission is not to counteract corruption. Our mission is a country without corruption.”
In addition, there was a discussion on "Collaboration of Countries against Money Laundering" with the participation of Eka Tkeshelashvili, the Head of the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative, Vitalii Kasko, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Rebecca Harms, German politician and former member of the European Parliament.
“Fight against corruption is pivotal for the rule of law as well as for the economic development of the country. We are happy to be involved in the process of the creation and development of the chain of anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine. In every country, there is a sustainable and comprehensive way to fight corruption. And right now in Ukraine, the consolidation and joint actions of all involved actors are really needed.”- Eka Tkeshelashvili, the Head of EUACI, remarked.
